I painted this after learning of the unexpected death of my uncle. Like all the men in my dad's family he was a sailor. He also was a night owl and so the scene resonated with me and my memories of him.
Artist Statement: I am inspired to paint when I feel a sense of sway. Sometimes it begins from listening to music, but it will often come from my own thoughts and what I see.
